Netflix "The Case" powered by VP Nordic Virtual Production

VP Nordic are proud to announce their involvement in the brand new Netflix crime series The Case, produced by B-Reel Films and written by George Kay, the creator of Lupin. As a pioneer in virtual production (VP) technology in the Nordic region, VP Nordic together with their partner studio Independent Studios AB, delivered advanced virtual production solutions for the highly anticipated series, supporting its ambitious vision and bringing fresh opportunities to the creative process.

The Case features Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson as father and son, reluctantly drawn together in the hunt for a brutal serial killer in Stockholm. With Kay’s reputation for sharp, suspenseful writing, the series promises a gripping story that blends character-driven drama with tense, cinematic visuals.

Rasmus Eriksson, VP Supervisor for the project, emphasized the value of the collaboration:

“Working with our partner studio Independent Studios AB, we developed a cost-effective solution that allowed us to run two cameras simultaneously. For example, on one of the shooting days we were able to complete 14 scenes, moving seamlessly between day and night environments. If this had been shot on a low loader or process trailer it would have been extremely time-consuming, especially in central Stockholm. With VP we gave the creative team freedom to focus on performance and storytelling while still achieving high production value.”

The production made use of VP Nordic’s expertise in car process work. Using a combination of AOTO Electronics RM 1.5 panels powered by Brompton Technology processing, an Epson EB-PU2220B laser projector onto an AV Stumpfl screen, and Image-Based Lighting with RuPixels RuFlex fixtures combined with Aputure Storm 1000c units. This set-up created a seamless integration of reflections, virtual sun, and environmental light, achieving a natural and cinematic blend on screen.

Logline: As endless summer takes its hold over Stockholm, a different kind of darkness sets in. Clean cut, highly regarded Lead Investigator Thomas Berg has a serial killer on his hands. With the brutal murderer targeting his police colleagues, Thomas makes a desperate gamble, turning to a once well-regarded but now out of favour, misanthropic ex-detective for help. His estranged father, Alfred. If they’re to stand any chance of protecting their fellow police officers, they must put their differences aside and find a way to work together. Only then will they catch one of the worst killers in Sweden's history.

The Case will launch globally on Netflix in 2026.
